Famous speeches – text, audio and video

March 28th, 2007 by brad

Recently I came across this site (can’t remember how I came upon it) that had text, audio and video of famous speeches. This includes speeches from Abraham Lincoln, but also includes speeches from movies like Gordon Gecko’s “Greed” speech from Wall Street. Pretty nice.

Send email reminders to yourself with your phone

March 28th, 2007 by brad

I read a post at studentlinc about using Jott and Gmail to send yourself reminders. Jott allows you to call in from your cell phone (or any phone you set it up for) and record a message which is then transcribed and sent to you as an email or an SMS. By using Jott in combination with filters in Gmail, you can create a simple to-do list that you can add to from anywhere (as long as you’re near a phone). Pretty slick.

Daily Show: YouTube vs. Comedy Central

March 27th, 2007 by brad

Great clip from the Daily Show commenting on Viacom suing Google over YouTube clips of their shows.

For some strange reason, Comedy Central will only allow this clip to be viewed until April 22, 2007. No idea why.

MarketWatch adds community stock predictor

March 27th, 2007 by brad

TechCrunch posted an update on MarketWatch.com, which released a new community-based stock predictor, called MarketPerception. The predictor is a small widget included on every stock listing page (example). Users are asked whether the stock will move up or down on the next trading day from its current price. Once a selection is made, the overall user votes are shown.

A fitness ball workout

March 20th, 2007 by brad

After my post on the ’300′ workout, I read into some more workout routines. Recently we bought a fitness ball so I wanted to see what exercises could be done using this tool. The Washington Post had a Live Online chat that discussed it, and provided a link to a set of exercises (with descriptions) posted at the Mayo Clinic. Pretty useful.

The ’300′ workout

March 20th, 2007 by brad

Unfortaunately, I can’t remember where I original saw a reference to this blog, but Josh Hill’s blog had a post on the ’300′ workout – the workout that was used to train the Spartans for the film 300. The workout was designed and run by Mark Twight, who runs Gym Jones. The workout is intense, but can be scaled for different people. It doesn’t use any machines, nothing that isolates muscles – it’s a full body workout to the extreme.
